The Homeschool Mother's Journal - 11

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...

Busy, busy, busy… we just released the April content for the Teacher’s Toolbox, we are gearing up for the April Preshow next week for the Schoolhouse Expo, and we went to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati.

In our homeschool this week...
Today we are 6 weeks from Shaiya’s graduation and so this is a very busy season for us. The weeks are just passing by so quickly. It would be nice to slow down time just a bit but the days are just zooming past.

After the Schoolhouse Expo and graduation, we are going to plan a family camping trip in June. One of our favorite places to visit is Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky and if all works out we are going in June.

I picked up a new Bible unit study curriculum for Briyah at the convention which we are excited about starting this week. I will post more on this very soon.

Places we're going & people we're seeing...

This past Friday we traveled to Cincinnati to the Midwest Homeschool Convention for The Old Schoolhouse ®Magazine and we had such a wonderful time! It was such a delight to meet friends and colleagues in person that we have worked with on projects. It was a super busy conference and we spent a lot of time at the booth speaking with families. If this conference is an indication of growth in other areas of the US, then it appears that homeschooling is growing by leaps and bounds. A large percentage of families that we met at the convention were brand new homeschooling families.

My favorite thing this week was...

Cindy Horton and her new book

Terri Johnson, Cindy Horton, and myself at the convention

I loved meeting everyone at the convention this week! It was especially nice to meet Cindy Horton and her wonderful family. Cindy and I have worked closely together at The Old Schoolhouse ® for a year now (it seems much longer) for the Schoolhouse Expo. It was so great to meet her in person for the very first time. It is amazing how much work you can accomplish together working online and it is just a delightful thing to be able to connect in person. Jon and Cindy have 3 adorable children and we enjoyed spending some time with them at the convention. Cindy also has a new book published by Knowledge Quest / Bramley Books: Expedition Earth. I will be reviewing this in the near future and it is a beautiful book!

What's working/not working for us...
Everything is going well in our studies. I have some new curriculum to collect over the summer as we gear up for Classical Conversations Cycle 3.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...
Next school term (beginning in August) we are going to begin working in Classical Conversations Cycle 3. Briyah enjoys working on studies in the summer (in a more relaxed manner) and so for June and July we are going to plan some thematic unit studies. I am working on coming up with a list of fun thematic units to cover through the summer that we can incorporate some field trips.
