Do you have tech savvy kids that are interested in web design and programming?

Homeschool Programming is a unique company that offers a full range of high-quality web design and programming courses for homeschooling students. Our family recently enjoyed the opportunity to review a full semester level course with the Mosaic Reviews team.

Our eleven year old daughter was pretty excited to start with Beginning Web Design. She would like to build her own entrepreneurial business website and she wants to learn basic web design skills.

We received the KidCoder: Beginning Web Design course which is the first semester of a year-long program. In the first semester of web design, students learn a broad base of skills to create websites with simple HTML. The second semester course, Advanced Web Design, will be released in October, and provides a continuation of the knowledge base established in the beginning course.

Homeschool Programming offers courses for many different levels of studies!

KidCoder: Beginning Web Design includes a Student Text (234 pages) and instructional videos.

The thirteen chapters of this one semester course include:
1. Introduction to Web Design
2. Web Site Files and Directories
3. Your First Web Page
4. Web Content
5. Connecting Your Site
6. Cascading Style Sheets
7. Practical CSS
8. Understanding Cascades
9. Positioning
10. Branding Your Site
11. Working with Graphics
12. Tables
13. Final Project

We are very impressed with the comprehensive depth of this course. The Student Text and Videos are logical in flow and truly only require a beginner level knowledge of general computer usage. Students do not need to have prior design or programming experience. The course serves as a complete teacher and is suitable for both beginners and students with a previous experience. Each chapter builds a knowledge base until the culminating chapter and project.

The recommended age for starting this course is fourth grade and it is flexible enough to be used on up to high school and adults. The course structure with the videos is interactive and works well with audio, visual, and kinesthetic learners.

What we enjoyed about KidCoder: Beginning Web Design:

  • The installation process only took minutes with the helpful instructions
  • Web design makes a great family project
  • Can be used with multiple children in one family
  • The course is user-friendly and gives step-by-step guidance
  • The course program serves as the actual teacher and the parent can help facilitate
  • It is an initial course with additional semesters that can be purchased for higher studies
